    1. Summary

    The changes in the technological environment due to the development of information and communication technology and the international community's efforts to respond to the climate change crisis are accelerating the paradigm shift of industries represented by digitalization and decarbonization.
    In particular, with increasing interest and demand for safety and environmental protection at sea, international regulations are being strengthened on IMO, which might be used as a new barrier to trade for leading the related technologies and industries. It will be one of the key factors influencing the competitiveness of the maritime industry in the near future.

    The SMTC supports the activities to respond to the development and implementation of international regulations and related industry standards relating to the maritime safety and environmental protection as follows:

    ● Study on trends, development and challenges in the global maritime industries
    ● Analysis of IMO instruments and related industry standards, including ISO, IEC, etc.
    ● Survey on the relevant state-of-the-art technologies
    ● Development and implementation of relevant technologies and standards:
       - Technologies for ship safety, based on risk assessment
       - Technologies for marine environment protection including Ballast water management, Bio-fouling, Energy efficiency, etc.
       - Quality management system (ISO 9000), Verification of Conformity (ISO 17025), etc.
